From a farm in the countryside to a new neighborhood near the city center
Early 1800s
The tenant's house is being demolished—the building that is currently used as a café.
1910
The old main building was constructed and sold 28 years later to be used as a nursing home. In 2015, the building was demolished after attempts to convert it into residential units proved too costly.
1989
Skövdebostäder acquired Aspö gård operated it as a traditional farm until 2006.
2001
A new, more modern barn is built specifically for cattle, and in 2002, production receives KRAV certification as part of Skövdebostäder’s environmental efforts.
2004
The first conceptual proposals for housing on Aspö were presented—proposals that, if they were to become a reality, would drastically change much of what the residents of Skövde thought of as “their Aspö.” These proposals were not finalized but rather a vision of what could be done.
2017
All the petitions, letters to the editor, and opinions that followed influenced the construction plans until a final decision was reached in December 2017. A residential area with just over 200 apartments, featuring three different environmental certifications, buildings designed to blend into the surrounding natural landscape, and a preschool. Aspö gård open as a visitor farm with animals during the season, rather than as a working farm.
