The Social Housing Agreement with the Municipality of Skövde

According to its owner directives, Skövdebostäder is to serve as a model socially responsible landlord and take responsibility for a reasonable share of the municipality’s housing needs for particularly vulnerable groups. The pressure on the municipality’s support services is constantly increasing. This includes, among other things, the challenge of finding housing for people in vulnerable groups. To create better conditions for helping people more quickly, Skövdebostäder and the City of Skövde have entered into a social housing agreement. The agreement outlines the scope of the collaboration, how it is to be organized, and who is authorized to sign contracts. In addition, a terms and conditions appendix will be developed that specifies the rights and obligations associated with various contracting procedures.

FAQs About the Social Housing Agreement

There is significant pressure on the municipality’s support services. This includes, among other things, the challenge of finding housing for people in vulnerable groups. To create better conditions for providing assistance more quickly, Skövdebostäder and the City of Skövde are now establishing a social housing agreement.

The situation in society and the world around us is changing very rapidly, and with a one-year contract, we have the flexibility to make adjustments if necessary.

Category housing refers to housing where we have specific requirements—such as age restrictions—as in senior and assisted living facilities. Or, as in the case of student apartments, where you must be admitted to the University of Skövde to sign a lease.

Skövdebostäder has had a low turnover of apartments for several years. This amounts to just over 500 per year, not counting specialized housing (such as student housing). Five percent of 500 is 25 apartments.

In 2016, there were 27 apartments. In previous years, the average was 13.

All apartments are first offered to our regular waiting list. This ensures that everyone has a chance to reserve one of these apartments. Sometimes, all of the people offered the apartment in the first round (the five with the highest queue points) decline. In that case, we assess whether the apartment might be suitable to offer to Skövde Municipality to meet their specific needs.

Yes, anywhere in Skövdebostäder’s housing portfolio. The agreement states that social sustainability and diversity are more important than the number of apartments, so a diverse distribution is important.

The rent is exactly the same, so Skövdebostäder isn't making any money on this.

Other property owners are also taking responsibility and are interested in doing more. Skövdebostäder is collaborating with the Property Owners’ Association, among others, to try to make this agreement—along with its forthcoming appendix of terms and conditions—applicable to other property owners as well.
