Environmental efforts, all year round, year after year
Examples of how we fulfill our environmental responsibilities:

- Installing solar panels in many of our neighborhoods
- We offer household-level recycling and food waste collection in most of our service areas
- We set sustainability requirements for our suppliers
Easy to Travel Sustainably
More than 80 percent of our tenants’ climate impact related to their housing comes from travel to and from home. We want to make it easier for our tenants to choose sustainable alternatives, such as:
- We offer electric vehicle charging stations in almost all of our communities. Learn more about renting a charging station.
- We have bike service stations in our neighborhoods. Here, our tenants can find tools and a place to hang their bikes.
- We have a car-sharing program in our Jupiter neighborhood Jupiter we rent out our company cars when we’re not using them. Read more here. We also have a car-sharing program at Aspö Eko-logi tenants in the area and at Frostaliden use.
- As for our own transportation , we have reduced the number of vehicles powered by fossil fuels to zero. The majority are electric, while a small portion runs on environmentally friendly HVO diesel or biogas.
Biodiversity
At Skövdebostäder, we are working to increase biodiversity in our neighborhoods. This involves, among other things:
- Mow the grass with a scythe instead of using a lawn mower.
- Create habitats, insect hotels, and meadows.
- Plan the vegetation in an area so that there is food for insects and birds, for example, for as long a season as possible.
Public Housing Climate Initiative
The Public Housing Sector’s Climate Initiative is a joint effort within the public housing sector aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions through ambitious goals, collaboration, and the active exchange of experiences.
Starting in 2025, the climate initiative will have new goals. The overall goals are to halve the climate impact of the public housing sector over the next ten years by:
- Building and Renovating with a Low Climate Impact
- Use fossil-fuel-free energy for operations and a fossil-fuel-free vehicle fleet
- Reduce the amount of residual waste sent to incineration
Reuse and the Circular Economy
Skövdebostäder is actively working to promote reuse in order to increase circular flows and reduce its climate impact. Here are a few examples of how we work:
- We have access to the municipality's furniture library and can therefore reuse office furniture.
- In 2025, we signed several agreements that include provisions to increase circular flows.
- At Snickaren downtown Skövde , we reused roof tiles, which reduced construction waste and saved an estimated 16 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents.
- In 2026 , a reuse project is underway , with the aim of increasing circular flows and setting measurable goals in terms of climate impact and Swedish kronor.
Green Electricity for the Climate
Skövdebostäder purchases electricity exclusively from renewable sources. This means that the electricity comes from sources such as wind power, hydropower, and solar power. There are also requirements that the electricity be produced with due regard for the environment, plants, animals, and people.
Flea markets and reuse
Flea markets promote more sustainable consumption, where items can be reused instead of thrown away. Tenants who want to organize flea markets can borrow a space for free, provided they meet certain criteria. They can also receive support and assistance with marketing.
