- The best place to barbecue is in the communal courtyard. You can use your own grill or a communal one.
- In dry weather—be aware of the fire hazard. If there is a communal grill in your courtyard, we recommend using that first.
- If you're planning to buy a grill, we recommend an electric grill, since they don't produce smoke. The electric grill is also the only type of grill you're allowed to use when grilling on the balcony.
- Feel free to talk to your neighbors before you start grilling, so that no one is bothered by the smoke and the sound of the grill.
- Use firelighters, fire starter blocks, or electric fire starters whenever possible. Avoid using fire-starting fluid.
- Some of our areas have designated barbecue areas (these are marked on your area map, which you can find here). Please feel free to use these barbecue areas!
The emergency services recommend
Due to the risk of fire, do not empty the ashes from the grill until the next day, to ensure that the embers have completely died out.
To avoid injury, it is best to use firelighters, fire starter blocks, or electric lighters. Never spray lighter fluid—or, even worse, T-red—onto the embers, as there is a high risk of burns if the flames flash back toward the bottle.
