The project began in January 2025 and has focused on bathrooms in Skövdebostäder’s oldest residential area, which was built between 1949 and 1952. As part of the renovation, items such as carpeting, tile, faucets, water pipes, toilets, sinks, and bathroom cabinets were replaced. Tenants also received partially new lighting in the kitchen and had ground-fault circuit interrupters installed in their apartments.
Dialogue with Tenants
An important part of the project has been the close collaboration with the tenants. Prior to each renovation, Skövdebostäder has held in-person meetings, provided information, and offered tenants the opportunity to visit a bathroom that had already been renovated.
– Before we renovate an apartment, we want to meet with the tenants in person and have a conversation before the work begins. It’s important that they have the opportunity to ask questions and that we can discuss the household’s needs. “Most people are satisfied, and it’s rewarding when we inspect the apartment and can show the tenant the new, beautiful bathroom,” says Nils Liljebo, assistant construction project manager at Skövdebostäder.
A large-scale project
The renovation was carried out in phases, with up to twelve apartments being renovated at any one time. The vast majority of tenants were able to remain in their homes throughout the renovation, with access to temporary shower and toilet facilities. Individual solutions were offered to households with special needs.
Positive feedback from residents
One of the tenants who had her bathroom renovated is Ann-Christin Svensson, who has lived at Östermalm for about 25 years.
“You can put up with a little bit when the results are so good. There haven’t been any problems, and I’ve been treated very nicely,” says Ann-Christin.
The renovation at Östermalm is part of Skövdebostäder’s long-term effort to develop and modernize its housing stock.
