A New Way to Pay for Electricity at Plutonen Bataljonen

Starting at the turn of the year, we will begin measuring electricity usage in your apartment—and you’ll pay only for the electricity you’ve actually used

Previously, the fee for household electricity was included in the rent, and the cost was determined by the total amount of electricity you and your neighbors consumed together.

The new system of individual metering allows you to have a greater say in your electricity costs, which is fairer. It’s also good for the climate, since it makes it clear to you how much you’ve used, making it easier to use less electricity.

Here's How Rent Invoices Will Change

Starting in December, you’ll begin paying a lower base rent—and the reduction is roughly equivalent to current average consumption. The monthly reduction is 200 SEK for a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen or kitchenette, 300 SEK for a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, and 400 SEK for a three-bedroom apartment with a kitchen. Just as before, you’ll pay your rent in advance.

We'll start tracking your electricity usage in January, and the cost will appear on your rent bill the following month.

Your charges on the rent statement will therefore change as follows:

December: You begin paying your new base rent.
January: Base rent.
February and beyond: Base rent + your electricity usage from the previous month.

Agreement with the Housing Council

This spring, we reached an agreement with the Skövde Student Housing Council to begin measuring electricity consumption individually for each tenant. The new system is called IMD—individual metering and billing.

This change affects all tenants at Plutonen Bataljonen, where we also installed new electricity meters in every unit over the summer and fall. The system itself, however, is not new; all of our other tenants already pay for their actual electricity usage.

Skövdebostäder supplies renewable electricity.

What does this mean for me?

  • You can influence your electricity costs yourself by using more or less electricity.
  • There is a line on your rent statement where you can see your electricity usage.
  • June and July are months when the base rent is waived for our student housing—but you will still be charged for electricity during those months. This means you will receive bills showing only the electricity charge to be paid in May and June.
  • When you move out of our building, you will receive bills showing only electricity charges. This is because you pay for electricity in arrears.
