Subletting
Are you thinking of subletting your student apartment? You may do so under certain circumstances, but please make sure you have permission from Skövdebostäder; otherwise, it could be expensive.
The grounds for subletting your apartment are set forth in the Tenancy Act.
For example:
- You are going to study or work in another place for a limited time
- You want to try living with a new partner.
The subtenant must meet the same requirements that apply to you as the tenant. For example, if you have a student apartment, you are only permitted to sublet your apartment to someone who has been admitted to the University of Skövde.
Skövdebostäder does not assist in finding a subtenant. If you want to sublet your apartment, you must find someone who wants to rent it.
If you want to sublet your apartment, fill out the application and submit it to Skövdebostäder. In addition to the registration, you must submit a document proving your reason for subletting. You will receive notification of approval or rejection via email. The processing time is four weeks.
If you sublet your apartment without permission, we will terminate your lease. If, in addition, you charge too much rent, you may face imprisonment.
Keep in mind that you, as the primary tenant, are still responsible for the apartment. You need to make sure the rent is paid and that there are no disturbances or other issues with the apartment.
Skövdebostäder recommends that you and the subtenant draw up a lease agreement. Here is a template you can use. Link to the template.
The subtenant does not automatically retain the right to continue renting the apartment if you, as the primary tenant, terminate your lease. In that scenario, the apartment will be listed on the website.
