The Swedish National Union of Students (SFS) has named Skövde the Student City of the Year for 2025.
In its explanatory memorandum, SFS highlights three areas in particular:
- Welcoming new students, both Swedish and international, through close collaboration between the university, the municipality, and the Student Union to help new students integrate into both social and academic life
- The availability of student housing has improved in Skövde, which has moved up to “yellow” in the SFS housing report after nine years of being marked “red.” The key to this has been a long-term collaboration between the student union, the university, the municipality, Skövdebostäder, and other property owners. New construction and stricter academic requirements have helped increase the number of available housing units and reduce pressure on the market.
- All the opportunities for interaction between students and the business community in Skövde, including through the Framtid career fair and Sweden Game Arena.
The Student City of the Year is selected by the Swedish National Union of Student Unions. The award is given to a city that stands out for its efforts to create a good study and living environment for students.
