Skövde Science City is now taking shape in Mariesjö, a neighborhood where residential units will be interspersed with business spaces, meeting places, and services, among other things, to create a dynamic and vibrant community. The project is one of the largest ever undertaken in Skövde, and the transformation is expected to continue through 2040.
So now it’s time for the first residents to move into the neighborhood. Moving trucks will arrive between August 30 and September 1 in the Bostället area, located at the intersection of Mariesjövägen and Lärkstigen. Skövdebostäder is organizing the move-in for the first of two buildings—a three-story building with twelve apartments that is fully leased. Move-in for Bostället’s second building—a five-story building with 59 apartments—will take place on December 1, 2023.
A Milestone for Skövde
– We’re delighted to be the first to build in Skövde Science City and that we can now also welcome our first tenants. The apartments are primarily smaller in size, and tenants are close to locations such as the University of Skövde, Science Park Skövde, Boulognerskogen, and the city center. There’s a bike shed in the courtyard, and we’re installing solar panels on the roofs,” says Katarina Prick, CEO of Skövdebostäder.
It’s no secret that this is a momentous occasion for the municipality of Skövde, as the first residents can now finally move into the new neighborhood.
– It’s truly exciting, and a milestone for Skövde, that the first tenants are now moving into Skövde Science City. Since there’s always high demand for housing in the city center, this feels especially good. Plus, it’s completely in line with Skövde Municipality’s vision for 2040 as we build for the Skövde of the future,” says Theres Sahlström (M), chair of the municipal executive board in Skövde Municipality.
Hannes is first up
One of the first tenants to move into Skövde Science City is Hannes, who previously lived in Frostaliden.
“It’s exciting to move in, and it’s an added bonus to be among the first to move into Skövde Science City. I’ll be close to work here, which means I can sell my car. Plus, everything is close by here, and that’s definitely a plus,” says Hannes.
What is Skövde Science City?
Skövde Science City is a new neighborhood close to the city center that will develop its own identity with more open architecture and tall buildings. The plans here include modern housing, student housing, offices, schools, and preschools—all within easy reach of shops, activities, the university, healthcare, and services. The neighborhood is framed by a thoughtfully designed outdoor environment with lovely green spaces, walking paths, and gathering places.
