– Fossil fuels like gasoline and diesel are expensive, so replacing some of your trips with bike rides or bus rides can save you money. How you travel is also important from a sustainability perspective. Commuting to and from home accounts for more than 80 percent of tenants’ housing-related carbon footprint, says Sofie Spetz, environmental and sustainability coordinator at Skövdebostäder.
Fall and Winter Cycling
Cycling is an inexpensive mode of transportation that’s also good for your health. But cycling during the fall and winter months can present certain challenges.
– It’s important to have the right lighting to ride safely during the dark months of the year. Feel free to dress using the layer-on-layer principle for a more comfortable ride. Your bike may need maintenance from time to time, and we have bike service stations in several areas—such as Östermalm, Havstena Käpplunda park. There you’ll find bike pumps and tools, among other things, Sofie advises.
When it comes to cycling in winter conditions, it’s a good idea to use studded tires and make sure your tires are inflated to the correct pressure. You should also have your brakes checked at a bike shop.
Electric Car Charging and Car Sharing
Electric cars are an alternative to fossil-fuel-powered cars. If you’re thinking about switching to an electric car, it’s good to know that Skövdebostäder offers parking spaces with their own charging stations in most areas. You can find available spaces onMy Pages. If you can’t find an available charging space in your area, please feel free to contact our leasing department. We may have charging spots rented out to tenants who don’t own an electric car. In that case, we’ll try to swap it with another available spot so that you, as someone who needs to charge your car, can do so.
“For those of you who only need a car occasionally, our car-sharing service is a convenient option. Here, you can rent our company cars—which are electric—when we’re not using them ourselves. You can book through the GoMore app, and the car-sharing service is located at Jupiter downtown Skövde. Residents of Frostaliden Aspö Eko-logi also use the car-sharing service on Aspö,” says Sofie.
Fossil-Free Vehicles in Our Operations
One of the major challenges facing society is climate change and global warming. This requires action from everyone. In addition to making it easier for you, as a tenant, to choose sustainable transportation, Skövdebostäder has, for example, reviewed its own fleet of vehicles.
“We currently have no vehicles that run on fossil fuels. Instead, they run on electricity, biogas, or eco-friendly HVO diesel. One of our goals is to achieve net-zero climate emissions by 2040—and we’re currently working on developing plans for how we can continue to reduce our climate impact. Our construction projects, among other things, play a major role in this,” Sofie explains.
