Skövde Housing Contributes to Positive Development—According to Skövde Residents

Skövdebostäder maintains a high pace of construction and has stepped up its sustainability efforts in recent years. According to a survey, this is appreciated by the city’s residents. In the survey, 76 percent associate the company with contributing to positive development in Skövde.

“As Skövde’s largest landlord and public housing company, we have a responsibility to the municipality where we operate. We aim to contribute to the housing supply while also fulfilling our social responsibility. For example, if we can give the residents of Skövde who live in our more than 5,000 apartments the opportunity to live sustainably, that makes a difference for the city,” says Katarina Prick, CEO of Skövdebostäder.

To ensure the company is on the right track, Skövdebostäder is now regularly gauging the opinions of the municipality’s residents. About 340 people have responded to the survey so far—including both tenants and other Skövde residents. Of these, 76 percent believe that Skövdebostäder contributes to positive development in the municipality—and also associate the company with this. 84 percent feel that Skövdebostäder contributes to a sustainable society.

More housing

An important part of Skövdebostäder’s mission is to build housing for the growing number of Skövde residents. The company has maintained a high pace of construction in recent years.

– Among other things, we have built 132 new student apartments in Kurorten and approximately 190 apartments in wood-frame buildings in Frostaliden. We are now continuing with construction projects in Trädgårdsstaden, Norrmalm, and Mariesjö. As a public housing company, we also contribute in other ways. This includes everything from collaborating with the municipality’s social services to organizing language cafés and sports activities in the neighborhoods together with local associations,” says Katarina Prick, CEO of Skövdebostäder.

Solar Cells and Fossil-Fuel Independence

Skövdebostäder has made several efforts toward sustainability in recent years.

– In 2020, we reduced our energy consumption by 4.7 percent. We purchase fossil-free electricity and, for the most part, fossil-free district heating. We strive to incorporate a sustainability mindset into our new construction projects and, for example, always perform climate calculations. Our newly built homes have solar panels on their roofs, and we’re also installing solar panels in other areas. At the same time, we’re investing in recycling, bike service stations, and expanding our network of electric vehicle charging stations,” says Thomas Olsson, Head of Procurement and Sustainability at Skövdebostäder.

About the Survey

The survey measures Skövdebostäder’s brand and was conducted by the Origo Group on behalf of Skövdebostäder. Approximately 340 municipal residents responded between June and October 2021. The sample is diverse in terms of gender, age, and type of housing.
