A black-and-white postcard shows a group of girls lined up in front of their school building. It is the early 1900s, and they are wearing hats and dark dresses. The building on Skolgatan now houses the offices of Skövdebostäder and the PRO clubhouse—but some traces of its origins as a girls’ school still remain.
“We once found some old ink bottles in the attic. They were probably meant for the students at the school,” says Mattias Eriksson, head of technical services at Skövdebostäder.

The facade at Skolgatan 2 is being renovated.
Preserves the appearance
The building on Skolgatan is located in the Jupiter neighborhood. Skövdebostäder is currently renovating the facade in collaboration with the contractors Sandå måleri, Kaefer, and Karaten.
– The house had been repainted with plastic paint that was starting to peel. We also discovered that some of the lumber had rot damage and needed to be replaced. Now we’re painting with linseed oil paint, which was used when the house was built. We’ve also specially ordered lumber from a sawmill to get the right dimensions and preserve the house’s original appearance,” says Mattias Eriksson, head of technical services at Skövdebostäder.
Renovation for the Future
The house on Skolgatan was built in 1878. A building this old has withstood a great deal of wind and weather over the years—and needs a little care to continue doing so in the future.
“The building has what are called ‘waists’—beams that protrude from the facade. They’re exposed to a lot of moisture, so we’re going to install metal flashings to protect them. We’re also going to renovate the windows on the buildings. According to our schedule, the renovation will be completed this summer,” says Mattias Eriksson, head of technical services at Skövdebostäder.
