This spring, Skövdebostäder installed solar panels on the garage roofs in the Hästhoven neighborhood, a low-rise residential area in the Ulveket-Dälderna district.
– What’s new about the facility is that we’ve installed a battery that can store energy. This is a solution that works especially well at Hästhoven. Many residents own electric cars and charge them after work in the afternoon or evening, when the sun isn’t as strong. That way, we can use the solar energy generated during the day instead. The electricity is also used elsewhere in the area, such as for outdoor lighting,” explains Tobias Nilsson, head of technical management at Skövdebostäder.
40 solar power plants
Working with renewable energy sources is nothing new for Skövdebostäder.
“We’ve been working with solar panels for a few years now and have about 40 installations throughout our residential areas. Since 2007, we’ve reduced our energy consumption by 30 percent, and solar energy is one of the factors that has helped us reduce our carbon footprint,” says Katarina Prick, CEO of Skövdebostäder.
Havstena is Havstena
Skövdebostäder is now continuing to expand by installing more solar power systems.
– We always include solar panels in our new construction projects and are also installing them in our older neighborhoods. For example, we have installations in Södra Ryd and on Henriksbergsgatan. We select neighborhoods based on local demand and energy consumption. Next up is our neighborhood in Havstena, which was built in the 1960s. We’ll be installing panels there later this year. “We won’t be using batteries there initially, but we’re preparing to be able to install them in Havstena other areas if the need changes,” says Tobias Nilsson, head of technical management at Skövdebostäder.
