Here's how we handle broken appliances in your home

When a major appliance breaks down, we want it to be handled smoothly and fairly. That’s why we have a standard procedure for determining whether a major appliance should be repaired or replaced.

“We want our tenants to know what the rules are and to feel confident that decisions are made consistently,” says Erik Lennartsson, coordinator at Boservice. Our basic approach is to first repair appliances that can be fixed at a reasonable cost. It’s better for the environment and a way to use our shared resources wisely. If that’s not possible, or if it becomes unreasonably expensive, the appliance is replaced.

Refrigerators and freezers – often replaced together

If a refrigerator or freezer cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced, and we are unable to find an identical unit, we will replace both at the same time. We do this to ensure that the kitchen has a uniform look. The replacement is at no cost to you as a tenant.

Tenant-Managed Apartment Maintenance

You can also request a replacement yourself through tenant-managed apartment maintenance (HLU), even if the appliance isn't broken. In this case, both the refrigerator and the freezer will be replaced, and you'll pay an early replacement fee for both.

Other Home Appliances

The same principle applies to, for example, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers. Each case is assessed based on age, condition, and repairability. Washing machines and dryers are only replaced at the same time if necessary to ensure a safe installation.

Reuse of Functional Appliances

Appliances that still work are salvaged and donated to Skövde Municipality’s furniture library or to charity instead of being thrown away.

“It’s important that appliances that still work can be put to good use again,” says Erik Lennartsson.

Always report a problem

To ensure that we can help you quickly and accurately, it’s important that you always file a service request when something isn’t working. That way, we can determine whether it’s best to repair or replace the appliance.
