When you move, you must therefore submit a change-of-address notification and, if necessary, request that your mail be forwarded. The change-of-address notification and any mail forwarding requests should be submitted no later than five business days before you want the change to take effect.
File a change-of-address notice
You can file a change-of-address notification free of charge with the Swedish Tax Agency at www.skatteverket.se/flytta
By filing a change-of-address notification, you’ll ensure your official residential address is correct, and most government agencies, businesses, and public services will be automatically updated with your new address.
If children are moving with you, you'll also need to report their change of address.
Apartment number – it’s important to enter it correctly
If your new address is not unique—for example, if several apartments share the same building entrance—you should include your apartment number when notifying government agencies of your move.
Apartment number:
- consists of four digits, for example, 1104
- can be found on your lease, your rent statement, and in the stairwell
Please note that this is not the same as Skövdebostäder’s property number. The property number consists of three groups of digits, for example, 17‑1‑12345. Only the last digits are displayed on your front door and your storage unit.
You must have the correct residential address on record
Being registered at the correct address is a legal requirement. You are not permitted to sublet your apartment without Skövdebostäder’s approval. According to the Tenancy Act, unauthorized subletting is grounds for termination of the lease. It is also a criminal offense to broker, sell, or buy a lease agreement. The penalty may be a fine or imprisonment.
Update Your Address
Not everyone automatically has their mail forwarded through the Swedish Tax Agency. You must therefore notify them yourself:
- friends and acquaintances
- associations
- certain companies
You can also request mail forwarding through Svensk Adressändring at
